My Samsung Phone Won't Charge or Turn on

When it comes to using a mobile phone, one of the most important requirements for it to work is that the battery is charged and the phone is turned on!

Unfortunately, problems can occur with your phone that can impair its ability to charge or turn on. If this is happening to your phone, then you can read our troubleshooting guide below to see if the problem can be resolved.

In the unfortunate situation that your phone cannot be fixed, you will need to buy a new one. Needing a new phone due to a fault or break is an unexpected cost, but choosing a reconditioned Samsung phone can help to lessen the amount you’ll have to spend.

What to Do if Your Samsung Phone Won’t Charge

Your phone needs to be charged in order for it to operate. If you are having issues with charging your phone then there are a few things you should do.

Check the Charger

One of the most common causes of issues with charging a phone is the charger itself. Check to see if the cable, charger, socket or adapter you are using is faulty.

You can either try plugging the charger you are using into another compatible device, or try a different charger on your phone. This should help you to see if the problem is with the charger you are using or with the phone itself.

When you plug the charging cable into your phone, the connector should fit snugly into the port and shouldn’t feel loose.

It is recommended that you use the charger that came with your phone or an official Samsung replacement charger. These chargers have been specially designed for Samsung phones and should charge the device faster and maximise battery life.

Check for Dirt

Another thing that can cause phones not to charge is dirt or debris becoming stuck in the charging port. If the charging port or connector is contaminated with dirt or debris, such as dust or lint, it can impair the connection between the device and the charger.

Use a torch to see if there is any dirt present and gently blow to try and remove it. You can get devices professionally cleaned if it is still clogged.

Check for an Update

Problems with charging your phone could be a software problem caused by your phone needing an update. You can check for updates by accessing your Settings app, selecting ‘Software Update’ and tapping ‘Download and Install’.

Try Rebooting the Device

If there is still charge left on your phone, but it is not connecting to a charger, you can try rebooting it. To do this, turn off the phone, wait for ten seconds, plug in the charger and then try turning the phone back on.

Try a Wireless Charger

If you think that your phone isn’t charging because of a fault with the charging port or cable, then you can try a wireless charger if your phone is compatible.

Remove the case from your phone to ensure it connects properly with the wireless charger.

Replace the Battery or Get a Repair

If none of the above works for your phone, then you may need to get the device repaired.

Depending on your contract, or where you bought your phone, you may be able to get the repairs covered by a warranty or insurance. A repair service may replace the battery, fix any issues with the charging port or recommend you get a new device.
