Find your iPhone model by using your model number. Discover how to find your phone’s model number and use our iPhone model number chart to see your model.
Many years ago, it was often easy to tell which device you had simply by looking. However, as the margins between each device get finer, it’s becoming hard to tell if you have a 10, 11, 12 or something else entirely!
In this blog, we’ve collated the easiest way to find out which iPhone you have. Whether you’ve purchased a reconditioned phone or found an old iPhone in a drawer, check out our table below to discover which model is yours.
By far the easiest way to find which model you have is through the model number. Every device has a model number that can be correlated to a specific model of iPhone.
Every iPhone model number is laid out in the same way - an A followed by four numbers (A####).
An example is A2342, which is for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The model number for your iPhone is available in Settings, under ‘General’ and ‘About’.
If you can’t turn the iPhone on, the model number can also be found on the device. Where it is found depends on the model, but there are only two possible locations if you’re unsure.
If you have an iPhone 7 (2016) or earlier, the model number will be engraved on the back of the device.
If you have an iPhone 8 (2017) or later, the model number is engraved onto the upper side of the SIM tray slot. Remove the SIM tray from your device and you should see it on the screen-side of the slot in your iPhone - you may need a light.
Each iPhone model has a selection of model numbers attached. The different numbers are usually used to differentiate between models for different regions (such as North America and Asia), where there can be minor build variations.
