Everything You Need to Know About the Huawei P40 Pro

One of the biggest climbers in the world of smartphones over the last few years has undoubtedly been Huawei. From relative obscurity, their quality devices have launched them into the same circles as Samsung and Apple when it comes to delivering a cutting-edge experience.

The Chinese company’s latest device is the P40 Pro. Released earlier in 2020, it continues the Huawei tradition of delivering incredible hardware, including their signature camera. Here, we take you through some of the device’s most notable specs.

Unbeatable Camera Features

Whenever talking about a modern Huawei device, there’s no other place to start than its camera. Yet again, Huawei has delivered a stunning setup that is almost unrivalled across all mobile devices.

Designed by German camera company Leica, the Huawei P40 Pro comes with a quad-camera setup on the rear, delivering incredible picture quality no matter what your subject. Ultra-wide, 5X optical zoom and ToF sensor features mean no photo is off limits!

The Huawei P40 Pro also has a 32MP selfie camera with IR sensor for face unlocking, a must on any high-end smartphone.

A Luxurious Modern Design

Some people are calling this device Huawei’s best in terms of its build, and it’s easy to see why. The glass body and aluminium frame give this phone a luxurious feel, while its smooth design is great to hold and looks impressive from every angle!

The Huawei P40 Pro has a 6.58-inch OLED display that all-but covers the front of the device. The screen has a resolution of 1200 x 2640 pixels, which is slightly below other flagship devices but still delivers stunning visuals.

A Different Android Experience

As with almost all phones outside of the Apple bubble, Huawei’s P40 Pro operates using Android. As a result, the interface is very similar to what you would see on Samsung, Sony and other mobile providers. However, there is one notable omission from the latest Huawei devices – Google.

Recent security concerns in the US and UK surrounding Huawei have led to restrictions placed on the company, and that has impacted its smartphones, which are no longer allowed to run with Google services. This means this device does not come with the Google Play Store and associated apps, such as Maps, YouTube, Gmail and so on.

Huawei has its own app store, called App Gallery, which features some of the main applications but not all. There is a feature on the device called Phone Clone, which allows you to transfer apps from an old device onto Huawei, but its reliability is not the same compared to getting apps from Google Play.

Strong Internal Performance

As with its externals, the Huawei P40 Pro has everything you need under the bonnet to keep up with the best phones in the market. The Kirin 990 chipset is partnered with 8GB of RAM, making this phone more than powerful enough to handle multiple apps or the latest games on-the-go. The Huawei P40 Pro has also been commended for its excellent battery life, with wireless and fast-charging options available.

Is the Huawei P40 Pro Worth Buying?

The Huawei P40 Pro comes with a wealth of advantages, none less important than its remarkable camera. With a beautiful design and excellent performance, the device does not look out of place alongside the best phones on the market.

However, no Google Play Store is a problem. If you love using your favourite apps with no hassle, then it may be better to wait until all of them have become part of the Huawei system before making the transition.
