Wake Up Gesture

First introduced with the Xperia XZ, this is a basic feature but can be useful when you want to get a quick glance at any notifications you have received.

By performing a quick double-tap on the screen, your screen will wake up and speedily display any messages waiting for you.

To activate this feature, go to Settings>Display menu>Tap to wake up.

Glove Mode Option

Most Sony Xperia phones will have a glove mode option, allowing you to use your phone as normal even when you’re bundled up against the cold.

Glove mode will make your touch screen incredibly sensitive, meaning you can use it when wearing thick gloves that take away a bit of your dexterity. To enable this feature, you can go to Settings>Display>Glove Mode.

This feature is disabled by default as when it is switched on, the screen can be too sensitive for normal use.

Alter Display Settings

Sony phones don’t disappoint when it comes to display technology, but if you want to take the display quality a step further, you can customise some of the settings to give your smartphone experience a boost.

By going to the display settings and selecting ‘Colour gamut and contrast’, you can enable ‘Super-vivid Mode’. This will inject even more colour into your display and add new depth and life to your photos!

For some Sony phones, you may have to navigate to ‘Image enhancement’ in the display settings to achieve brighter, more vibrant colours.

Prolonging Battery Life

One of the many good things about Sony phones is that they are designed to adapt to your charging habits and will stop the battery from being overcharged. This helps to keep your battery and charger performing at their best for longer.

If you’re finding that your battery is being drained a little too quickly, there are a couple of tricks to try to help stop your phone dying on you.

In your phone’s settings, you will find a ‘Battery’ category. Here, you can select ‘Stamina Mode’ or ‘Ultra Stamina Mode’. This feature will reduce any background activity that drains power unnecessarily. This can be a helpful feature if you ever need to preserve power in an emergency.

One-Handed Options

Using a phone one-handed can be useful, but as smartphones become bigger, one-handed use starts getting more difficult.

To make using their phones more user-friendly, Sony offers various one-handed options. Once again, ‘One-handed operations’ can be found in your phone’s menu.

Here, you can play around with the settings which will enable you to do things like shrink the screen for more accessible scrolling. More options can be revealed in ‘Optimised Apps’.

For bigger Sony models, this trick is sure to come in handy!

Unique Storage and Memory Options

With the help of the unique ‘Smart Cleaner’ feature, the performance of a Sony phone is given a boost, meaning it runs more smoothly and efficiently.

This feature helps to clear out your memory and storage, leaving your phone clean and junk-free to prevent it from slowing down any time soon. If you do notice your phone becoming a little more prone to lagging, you can go to Settings>Storage and Memory>Smart Cleaner. Upon enabling this, you should see an instant lift in your phone’s speed and general performance.

You will also be able to see how much free RAM you have, and which apps are using up the most space in the ‘Advanced’ option in the ‘Storage and Memory’ category. If you notice any apps that use a large portion of your storage, but you barely use, it may be a good idea to uninstall them.

Sony News Suite

With their instant access to global new, smartphones keep us connected with the rest of the world. Sony phones have a great feature that facilitates this.

The Sony News Suite app that is pre-installed in your phone gives you quick access to headlines and a variety of sources that can be customised by you. To create a personalised news feed, you can set up RSS feeds or streams based on search terms through ‘My Feeds’.

The ‘Edit tabs’ option in the app’s ‘Settings’ will also allow you to choose what kind of news is displayed on the homepage, whether you’re most interested in sports, gaming or current affairs.
