APN Settings - Samsung
No matter what kind of Samsung phone you have, your main priority is going to be ensuring that everything works correctly and that you are getting the most out of your device.
Nowadays, getting online and accessing the internet effectively is an absolute must for smartphone users. If your Samsung is being plagued by connectivity issues, your APN settings could be the problem.
Below, we cover everything you need to know about setting up or changing the APN settings on your Samsung phone.
What is an APN?
Firstly, you’ll need to have a basic understanding of what an APN is and what it does.
Standing for Access Point Name, an APN is essentially the information your phone needs to connect to mobile networks like the internet.
When you access the internet on your phone, your mobile network operator will read the APN settings to give your phone an IP address and ensure the connection is secure - your device’s APN settings must therefore be set up correctly.
Why Do You Need an APN?
Most of the time, you will not have to worry about your APN settings - most SIMs will automatically input the correct APN settings without the need for you to change anything manually.
However, there are some instances where you may need to change your APN details to make sure your phone can connect through the data network.
If you are switching from one network to another, you may have to change your APN settings as each APN is different depending on your network operator. This is especially relevant if you’re buying a device from overseas or a second-hand phone, like one of our reconditioned Samsung phones.
Business and Pay-As-You-Go SIMs may also require you to take a look at the APN settings and change them accordingly.
Before changing any settings, it’s important to make sure you’re entering the right details; incorrect changes to the APN can prompt a loss in connection or incur additional charges.
How to Change Your Samsung’s APN Settings
Samsung phones will usually automatically configure the correct APN settings, depending on the SIM card. You can reset your Samsung’s APN by doing the following:
- Go to Settings > Connections.
- Tap on Mobile networks > Access Point Names > More.
- Tap ‘Reset to default’ or ‘New APN’ to manually enter the new details.
