Activating Your iPhone

When you first turn on your iOS device, you'll see a screen displaying 'Hello' in different languages. Slide from left to right anywhere on this screen.

If you have low vision, you can turn on VoiceOver or Zoom.

If you need to locate your IMEI/MEID and ICCID, tap the "i" in the lower-left corner of the Hello screen.

Select the Language 

Select the language you want your iOS device to use, and then the region in which you'll be using your iOS device. This will affect things such as date, time, and contact formatting.

Begin Device Activation 

Your iOS device requires an internet connection to set up. Tap the name of your desired Wi-Fi network to begin device activation.

If you're activating an iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) with active cellular service, you can instead choose cellular activation.

Location Services 

Choose whether to enable Location Services. You can read more about location services if tap About Location Services on the iOS setup screen

Back Up

Set up your iPhone as a new device, from an iCloud backup, or from an iTunes backup.

Sign in with your Apple ID, which you've created previously, or create a free Apple ID. Alternatively, you can tap Skip This Step.

If necessary, learn how to create a free Apple ID:

Select your birthday, then tap Next: You can then use either your current email address, or choose to get a free iCloud email address.

Select the option you'd like, then tap Next. Enter your current email address, or what you'd like for your iCloud email, then tap Next.

Password

Enter what you'd like for your password and tap Next.

Enter your security questions and answers, tapping Next after each.

If you like, enter an alternate email address to be used as a "rescue email". Tap Next after you have done so, or if you chose not to use one.

Select whether you'd like email updates and tap Next.

Terms and Conditions

If you agree to the terms and conditions of your iOS device, tap Agree.

If you'd like to have the terms and conditions emailed for later review, tap Send by Email, confirm the email entered is correct, then tap Send.

iCloud 

Choose whether to upgrade your iCloud account to use iCloud Drive. This allows you to store your files in iCloud and access them anytime on all your devices.

iCloud Drive requires iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. If you upgrade your account, any documents currently stored in iCloud will move to iCloud Drive. You'll be able to access them only from devices with iOS 8 or Yosemite.

With an iCloud account set up on your device, you can use Find My iPhone.

iMessage and FaceTime 

Set up iMessage and FaceTime on your device.

Touch ID

With iPhone 5s and later, you can set up Touch ID to use your fingerprint in place of your passcode or Apple ID password for purchases.

Protect Your Data 

To protect your data, you should create a passcode for your device. You'll use it to unlock your device. If you don't need a passcode, tap Don't Add Passcode.

If you choose to use Touch ID, you must enter a passcode.

To make sure you did not make a mistake, you need to enter your passcode twice.

If you chose a commonly used passcode, you'll be asked to choose a more secure one.

If you need to use a complex passcode, you can set it in Settings > General > Passcode after completing this assistant.

iCloud Keychain 

Set up iCloud Keychain, if you would like to know more about iCloud Keychain tap about iCloud Keychain and privacy.

Siri 

Choose whether to use Siri.

You can learn more about Siri by scrolling to the bottom of the screen and tapping, About Siri.

App Analytic Data 

Choose whether to allow Apple to share App Analytic data with app developers.

If you change your mind, you can change this any time at Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & Usage.

Display Resolution 

With iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, you can choose between two display resolutions: standard and zoom.

Use Display Zoom to choose how you'd like to view your iPhone.

Standard fits more on the screen. Zoom shows larger text and controls.
